Social Choice Fund

Making an impact through socially responsible investing

In the spirit of many campus initiatives to promote sustainability, there is now a Socially Responsible Investment option for endowed gifts. Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) is an investment process that considers the social and environmental consequences of investments, both positive and negative, within the context of rigorous financial analysis. This Social Choice Pool provides a way for U alumni and friends to have social criteria considered in the investment of their endowed gifts.

The equity portion of the Pool seeks a favorable long-term total return that reflects the investment performance of the overall U.S. stock market while giving special consideration to certain environmental, social and governance criteria ("ESG"). The bond component invests across the investment grade, U.S.-dollar fixed income market in securities that demonstrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) leadership and/or direct and measurable environmental and social impact.

The Social Choice Pool had a return of 26.2% for the 2021 fiscal year (ended June 30). This brought the three and five year returns to 14.0% and 12.0% respectively. Its benchmark 60% S&P 500 stocks/40% bonds, returned 23.3% for one year, 13.4% (annualized) for three years, and 11.7% (annualized) for five years.

If you are interested in providing an endowed gift to the Social Choice Pool, please contact the Development Office at 801-581- 6825.
